“Theater of the Four Seasons” presents Yiannis Soldatos’s “When Theophilus met the lover in despair” directed by Yiannis Mortzos. Yiannis Morzos himself plays the part of Theophilus while Angelika Pardalidou is the “Lover in despair”.
This performance is based on the connection between two of Theophilus’ paintings: “Lover in despair” and “Ottomans from the Province of Nicomedia”. All this in the presence of a fresco depicting the Mermaid, the sister of Alexander the Great
With this painting, Theophilos creates a world, his own special world in the form of a folk tale. Based on this form, Ioannis Soldatos attempted to write a text similar to a folk theater texts and Ioannis Mortzos turned it into a folk performance.
Theophilus was a real person. In the beginning, he was treated as a mad person but in the end he became a famous artist and was placed in the pantheon of the great Greek painters of the 20th century.
