Ida-niko Performance (2016)

Ida-niko Performance, directed by Thomas Diaphas

May 31, 1923

The president of the Greek Refugee Commission in Aleppo-Syria sends a telegram to the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs asking the Greek government to stop sending more refugees from Minor Asia into Syria. “It has become impossible to accommodate more refugees”.

April 1,2,3, 2016

Idaniko, a word game between the Greek word “idaniko” that means “Ideal” and “Niko” that means “I win”, because the “ideal world” is built through small victories. An idealized reception and treatment of refugees. An inverted present reality. A “bell” for the collective memory. A journey in time. The “here and now” is turned into “there and then.” “Greece-2016” into “Syria-1923”. An opportunity to truly meet with Syrian culture, examine how the Greek ways have been modified, influenced by another tradition, their music, dance and food. As part of this project, the social cuisine as “the other hand” will accompany the event with traditional Syrian food.
