“About Freedom”: A Social Musical on the Athenian Stage by “Stendhal Syndrome” team
Summary
The performance deals with freedom in its various possible forms, through a group of young people. Regina, Hector, Phaedra and Jacob are concerned about the social conditions in the place where they live. Their driving force is Regina’s insistence on change, which persuades them to create the “free” movement. The three, as well as Regina, are unaware of her mental state, which is Bipolar Disorder and ID Disorder.
Their aim is to overthrow the existing system, without trying to gain power. In their endeavour, they confront the harsh reality and face many losses, reaching the point of questioning what it is they finally want, confusing the “freedom” they seek with true freedom, which is actually a lot harder to find. A modern musical embedded in political context, with cruel and violent scenes, which few can possibly endure, flirting with the limits of a psychological thriller.
